Etna Lavastone is volcanic eruption often result in molten stone -called Lava- flowing down the slopes. When it solidifies contained gases do escape leaving holes behind, in a Lava type such as Etna Lava shown here, these holes are not connected. The permeability is very low, so ground water don’t flow easily through it. Surface holes indicate a high porosity, which combined with the extreme low permeability and the relative high sulfur contents blocks the forming of algae and fungi. Sand and dust deposited in the holes will dry in full sun light and blow away with the wind, otherwise it may be easily vacuumed. All together a very low maintenance floor covering.
Stone is suitable for in and outdoor use, non-slippery and quite cool in the full sun due to the air-pockets in the surface holes. Stone is very hard, high iron contents and resistant against scratching.
In a well coordinated landscape design, a walkways represents much more than connecting two areas. It must reflect and complement the total design character made by the architect. Form, shape, colour will blend in, or enhance the overall setting as seen in the eye of the landscape artist. Besides the beauty effect, durability, maintenance and safety also do play an important role.
Etna Lavastone, a volcanic rock, used either a in freeform shape or rectangular tiles can offer all the above, and at a very reasonable price.
